In the Presences of Meditation
The act of meditation is so diverse with various "actions" of how to...
And, what I can say for myself through my own past practices of meditation is that I have looked, sounded, and experienced meditative states in several different ways. Let me explain...
Over the years I have meditate using breath work, sound healing, sitting up, lying down, drinking tea, chanting, "quieting the mind", being still- with mudras- without mudras, closing a nostril, floating, while practicing yoga, I've lit candles, I've listened to music, listened to air, listened to water, listened to youtube, I've meditated alone, in a group, during ceremony, guided by others, guided by self...the list goes on and on...
At this point in time meditation is less about the act and more about the state of being- I mean ultimately that's ALWAYS been the point. And, even though tapping into the state of 'nothingness' was always the goal by quieting the mind, going within...to silence your human-be-ing, I feel I finally stopped searching for the complexities of how I can get deeper satisfaction, and how meditation can be even more apart of my daily dinacharya and rituals on a more practical basis. So, I practice these 'meditative experiences' to bring the richness that I crave into my daily life as often as I need them.
I practice mostly by becoming mindful. Grabbing a mug, feeling in my hand, reaching out to a coffee making machine, grab the handle and feeling the grip of my fingers wrap around the handle...In my head, heart, soul, body I make an attempt to become aware, because that it what meditation is all about. I forget that what I am experiencing could be considered mundane and do the best that I can to 'feel' my experiences. This is what we seek, awareness in a higher state of consciousness, an experiential of just being human. And it's hard not to feel grattitude for life.
